If you drive to the airport simply to drop off or collect a passenger, drive directly to the appropriate Terminal where you are permitted to stop briefly to load or offload. When collecting someone, however, it is far better to park in one of the short stay car parks to avoid the vigilant attention of the traffic wardens.
What you must never do is leave your car unattended outside one of the Terminals. The level of security at Britain's airports is amongst the highest in the world, and if you leave your car unattended the least that will happen is that it will be towed away and a heavy charge levied for its retrieval. At worst you could trigger a full blown Security incident.
Both Terminals have their own car parks for short and long stay, so ensure you know which Terminal you need before you arrive at the airport. There are also specially designated Fast Track car parks for First or Business Class travellers.
Up to date details of car parking rates can be obtained by calling 0844 871 7521, quoting CP.
Vehicles over 6'3" (1.9m) for South Terminal and 7' (2.1 m) for North Terminal should follow the signs for the high vehicle parks.
Don't leave your vehicle unattended outside of a car park at Gatwick. It will be towed away by the Police and the release fee is over £100. Each Terminal has its own Short Stay facilities where parking is charged by the half hour for the first hour, and hourly thereafter.
Fees for short-term parking must be paid before exit. The machines will accept cash in coins and notes, and all major credit cards.
