Unlike Heathrow Airport, Gatwick is not directly connected to the Underground system. However, if you need to get somewhere in London other than one of the mainline rail stations served by the trains from Gatwick, taking the Underground is usually the most convenient, quickest and cheapest way to complete your journey.
The Gatwick Express service connects with the Underground at Victoria, from where the Victoria Line connects with King's Cross / St Pancras main line station, and the Circle and District Lines connect with the main line network at Paddington.
Thameslink trains connect with the Northern Line (City branch) at London Bridge, and with the Hammersmith and City, Circle and Metropolitan Lines at Farringdon. Change at King's Cross for the Northern (City branch), Victoria, Piccadilly, Hammersmith and City, Circle and Metropolitan Lines, or at London Blackfriars for access to the Circle and District Lines. From City Thameslink there is access to the Central Line via a pedestrian subway to St Paul's.
An alternative way of reaching Central London is to take the Flightline 777 bus, which runs hourly direct to Victoria Coach Station. The journey takes approximately 70 minutes from South Terminal, and a few minutes longer from North Terminal. You can also pay after boarding the coach, where US and Canadian dollars will be accepted, although credit cards will not.
