Any passenger whose flight connection involves changing Terminals, one of which is either T1 or T2, or who is transferring between Domestic and International flights within T1, will use Heathrow's premier passenger transfer facility, the Flight Connection Centre (FCC). Opened in 1994 to improve the efficiency of Domestic/International flight transfers, and provide passengers with a much greater degree of comfort, the FCC is located between T1 and T2. One of the great advantages of the FCC is that passengers transferring between Domestic and short-haul International flights remain 'airside' and do not need further security checks before their next flights. The FCC is not used by every passenger who has a connecting flight. If your connecting flight departs from the Terminal at which you arrived, or is a Domestic/Domestic transfer in T1, you will not be able to use the FCC facilities. The chart below shows the procedure for inter-Terminal transfer.
If your connecting flight departs from the Terminal at which you arrive, there is no need for you to leave the 'airside' area. Should you wish to go 'groundside', perhaps to meet a friend or colleague, you are free to do so but must undergo the full security process when returning to the Departures lounge. Each Terminal has a flight connections lounge where showers, baby care, loungers and refreshment facilities are available for transit passengers.
Connections either way between Terminals 3 and 4 require passengers to clear Arrivals in the first Terminal, and then board the free coach service that will take them to the Departures level of the next Terminal. The connecting coach journey can take 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic conditions, and passengers have to pass through security again at the departure Terminal. The whole transfer process from arriving at Terminal 3 to sitting in the departure lounge of Terminal 4 (or vice-versa) can take well over an hour, so anything less than a two-hour transfer time in your schedule may be tight. If your journey requires a T3-T4 or T4-T3 connection, make sure that your hold baggage is 'through-checked' to your final destination at the beginning of your journey, and transfer will be very much quicker and easier.
The top floor of the three-level Flight Connection Centre is the Process level where Immigration, Customs, Onward Ticketing and Security requirements are handled.
On the middle floor, the Comfort and Care level provides seats, loungers, a business area, baby care facilities and a children's play area for passengers with International departures from T1. Also on this level, the Rest and Relaxation area, managed by Thomas Cook, has many facilities available for a moderate cost. If you want peace and quiet, and a chance to snooze on a comfortable lounger, try the new Slumber Plus service, which includes refreshments, for £12.S0. Business desks and secretarial services are available, and a full tariff of prices can be obtained from reception or by calling 01817452600. From this floor passengers have access to the duty-free shops, and are able to leave their cabin baggage at a supervised facility.
The ground floor of the FCC is where passengers will find the coach service that links the FCC with Terminals 3 and 4. Coaches run to T3 every 6 minutes and to T4 every 3 minutes.
